Heavy rains, flooding, and high wind speeds are some of the most disastrous and common spring and summer weather patterns. Floods are among one of the more damaging water disasters that can affect your home. They can happen in multiple different ways, the most recurrent being from heavy rainfall.

There are a few different types of floods that can cause major damage to your property –

1. Overland Floods

2. Flash Floods

3. Hurricanes

Overland Floods

Overland flooding occurs when rivers or streams overflow and underground drainage systems reach max water capacity, thus filling up streets, alleys, backyards, fields, cars, and homes with water. This type of flooding can be rapid or it can move at a slower pace. Regardless of speed, the water can cause some serious damage to your home if it ends up flooding your space.

Flash Floods

Flash floods most often happen after a heavy rainfall. In the worst cases, a levee or a dam could break, causing high speeds and mass volumes of water to rush through any open space it can fill. Flash floods are very dangerous because they carry debris with it, making the damages very unforgivable. They also happen very quickly, so avoiding them is difficult.

Hurricanes

Hurricanes are formed in the warm tropical waters of an ocean. They cause high winds and heavy rain, and can travel hundreds of miles inland, effecting more areas than just the oceanfront cities and homes. The high winds can cause power to go out, trees to fall over and can result in broken windows, damage to rooftops, and snapped powerlines. The flooding that comes from hurricanes can affect the coastal areas because of a rapid rise in water level from the ocean.

Our water removal routine consists of efficiently drawing out water from a space, as well as collecting salvageable contents in which we would use specific drying techniques to restore the items back to their original condition. As a homeowner, you want to act as quickly as possible when your space and possessions get wet to avoid any mold or bacterial growth, so call us at 330-409-8000.

In the event that you weren’t home and your basement floods, or a pipe bursts, leaving standing water in your home can cause quite a few issues. There are 3 categories of water damage that you should be aware of-

Category 1: Clean Water – water that comes from a sanitary source (faucets, shower heads) that pose no real threat to the health and safety to a humans health. But if left untreated, it can turn into a Category 2 level.

Category 2: Gray Water – this occurs when chemicals and other contaminants seep into the water which can cause a risk to human health if exposed. You’re most likely to find contamination from dishwashers, toilets (containing urine) and sump pump failures.

Category 3: Black Water – considered extremely unsanitary and can cause serious illness if ingested or exposed. You will find this level of severity from river water, sea water, sewers and toilets. This level of contamination is extremely dangerous, yet very common during flood and storm seasons.

With any water damage poses the threat of mold and bacterial growth. So, if things aren’t fixed immediately and professionally by IICRC (the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) technicians, you could risk long-term effects. Give Trident Restoration a call at 330-409-8000.

Mold

Black mold is amongst one of the most common types of mold. Generally, if you have a healthy immune system, black mold isn’t going to pose much of a threat. But the people most at risk are

  • Infant and children
  • Older adults
  • People with allergies or asthma
  • People with weakened immune systems (may be at risk of fungal infection)

If you or anyone you know might be exposed to mold or bacterial growth, give us a call ASAP so we can evaluate your space and salvage your belongings by reversing the cause that created the growth. Spores from mold can be blown around your ducts from you HVAC, so having your system cleaned and properly assessed will fix any long-term damages that may occur.

Wind

Along with floods and hurricanes, wind damage is something to consider during any storm.

When wind speeds reach 47 to 54 miles per hour, some structural damage can occur.

At 55 miles per hours, the wind has the force to uproot small trees and cause considerable damage to rooftops. At an incredible 64 miles per hour, the wind can blow over or uproot large trees. These speeds are substantial and can happen any time of the year, but they’re most common during typical thunderstorm seasons.

Tornadoes, microbursts, downdrafts from a storm, or just a heavy gust of wind have the capability of reaching extremely high wind speeds. In the case of a damaged home or building during high winds, Trident Restoration is available 24/7 for any emergency and will tarp up the area so that secondary damages will not occur. These tarps are tear and water resistant, so they can stand up to many different elements. Adding a tarp to a damaged area also ensures a safe living environment until restoration can begin.
